Oily Skin? Go Beyond Matte!

jane iredale mineral makeup

Oily skin plagues many of us year round, but it gets worse with summer heat and humidity. Even those of us who don't consider ourselves oily might be surprised and dismayed by a beaming forehead in a photo (when can I renew my passport?!). Just in time, jane iredale has launched its super-duper HD-ready matifying powder in not one but FOUR shades! Why four?

Translucent Finishing PowderTranslucent is ideal for light to medium skin tones

Dark Finishing PowderDark is perfect for medium to dark skin tones, and also makes a great bronzer.

Lilac Finishing PowderLilac does wonders to brighten sallow complexions,

Peach Finishing Powderand Peach warms up pale skin.

One time someone asked me how to get a dewy-matte look. I was stumped, but thankfully I have a team of experts to whom I can refer. Here are some great tips for how to achieve different matte finishes by using different brushes:

• To get a red-carpet, HD-ready look that is totally matte with a velvety smooth finish on the skin, apply Beyond Matte with the Chisel Powder Brush.

• For a medium matte finish, dust it on with the Blending Brush. This deposits slightly less powder on the skin for a clean, sophisicated look.

• To leave a little glow on the skin (the elusive dewy-matte!), apply Beyond Matte with the Fan Brush. This leaves just a hint of product on the skin for a natural, luminous finish.

And if that's not enough, here are a few extra tricks from the experts:

• For a controlled glow, apply Beyond Matte to the center of cheeks, nose, forehead and chin - the often shiny T-zone.

• Thinking forward to fall's dramatic lips, you can make your stand by lipstick more vivid by applying Beyond Matte over the entire mouth area with your brush before applying lip color.

• To tone down shimmery eye shadow, apply Beyond Matte right on top with the Large Shader Brush.

hello!

I am glad to see that Jane Iredale has come up with new product for oily skin!! :D

however, I would like to know what's the difference between this and Pure Matte finish powder?

Thanks!

Hi Jocelyn,

Beyond Matte is a totally new formulation with new and even more highly oil-absorbant ingredients. There are also more options based on application, from natural to totally matte (see the video I just embedded); and on the shades, to color correct and match skin tones of all colors.

I hope this helps!

I love the look in the picture accompanying this post - very chic! Can you give me the product/application run-down?

Hi Bonnie,

I am chasing that down. I will post when I get the information from the makeup artist.

Hi there,

I am so sorry for the delay.

Here is Heather's look:

First apply foundation and concealer as usual, finishing with Translucent Beyond Matte applied to the t-zone with the Chisel Powder Brush for flawless shine control. Then move to the rest of the face as follows:

Eyes

• Using the Sculpting Brush, cover entire lid with Canvas Lid Primer.

• Using the Chisel Shader Brush apply Allure from the goGreen Eye Steppes from the lash line to the brow bone.

• Using the Oval Blender Brush, apply Dusk PurePressed Eye Shadow to the lids.

• With the Crease Brush, apply Grape from the goGreen Eye Steppes to the crease blending toward the inner brow bone.

• With the Eye Shader Brush, apply a touch of Copper on the inner brow bone.

• With the Dual Eyeliner Brush, line the upper and lower lash lines with Black/Brown Plus Cream to Powder Eyeliner.

• Apply PureLash Extender & Conditioner to the upper and lower lashes followed by Jet Black PureLash Mascara.

• Use the Blonde Bitty Brow Kit to enhance brows.

Cheeks

• Using the White Fan Brush, Apply Tawny PurePressed Blush to the apples of cheeks.

• Lightly dust Honey Bronze PurePressed Base on cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead with the White Fan Brush.

Lips

• Apply Sabrina PureMoist LipColour with gloss from Desire Lip Fixation.

Remember that while this is the exact application our makeup artist used on this model, you can experiment and substitute as needed. Enjoy!

I was at a Dermatologist office when I noticed the makeup the associate was wearing looked beautiful. I asked her what she was wearing and she told me it was Jane Iredale. So, when I got home I looked it up online and ordered my first Starter Kit in Mediterranean. I ordered the wrong color for my face and was disappointed.I really wanted to have fresh new makeup for my trip to my sisters house in Orlando. I'm thinking of returning it for a lighter color to finish out the winter and spring. The Mediterranean would be perfect for me during the summer months.Do you sell samples of your products in different colors to try before you buy? Also, applying the foundation in the kit, I used the Base Brush and the bristles from the brush was all over my face. Not sure I like the quality of the brushes. Maybe this happens only with the Starter Kit brushes. I'm used to wearing the Bare Essentials and do believe that I will like the Jane Iredale products. Would love to give it another chance! I did love the Dream Tint!
